Giselle Salazar-Tapia, a 30-year-old mother of four, was found hanging from a dock at the Wharf Marina in League City, Texas, on May 31, 2024. Authorities initially suspected suicide, but now believe foul play was involved. James Ray Hart, her boyfriend, was arrested on July 26, 2024, and charged with tampering with or fabricating physical evidence with the intent to impair a human corpse. Salazar-Tapia’s body was partially submerged in the water, with one arm contorted, leading authorities to suspect foul play. Police believe the hanging was staged to look like a suicide. Less than three weeks after Salazar-Tapia’s death, another woman, Aleta Fuentes, was found dead on a boat at the same marina. Hart has consistently said he is innocent, claiming he loved Salazar-Tapia and was not involved in her death. Salazar-Tapia was scheduled for rehabilitation (a program for medical or psychological treatment) on July 27, 2024. The community at the marina was shocked by the incident, and neighbors described Salazar-Tapia as lively and compassionate. Salazar-Tapia’s death has left many unanswered questions and has raised concerns about safety in the marina. Authorities are continuing to investigate both deaths to determine if there is any connection between the two cases.
