A convicted murderer who escaped from prison has been apprehended. Mark Anthony Doyle, who was serving a life sentence for second-degree murder at Warkworth Institution, was discovered inside the medium-security federal prison east of Peterborough, ON, by a search team comprised of Correctional Service of Canada and Ontario Provincial Police officers. Corrections officers investigated the circumstances surrounding his disappearance. Following a head count, Doyle was thought to be missing. A second head count was conducted, and provincial police were called in. Doyle's criminal record includes sentences served for drug possession, prison breach with intent, escaping lawful custody, and property offenses, in addition to convictions for second-degree murder and attempted murder. Doyle was the head of the prison's elected inmate committee and was involved in a failed legal bid to overturn the facility's smoking ban.i
