Keanan Christopher Turner Case Report 

Background: Keanan Christopher Turner, a Maryland resident, was involved in a harrowing criminal case that culminated in a double homicide and additional violent crimes in Southeast Washington, DC. The case drew significant media attention due to the nature of the crimes and the relationship between Turner and the victims. 

Incident Overview: On April 12, 2021, Turner visited the apartment of Ebony Wright, his estranged partner and the mother of his child, under the pretense of meeting his three-month-old baby for the first time. The meeting turned tragic when Turner fatally shot Ebony Wright and her mother, Wanda Wright, and assaulted another woman present at the scene. He also attempted to set the apartment on fire. 

Victims: 

• Wanda Wright, 48, was found outside the apartment with a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene. 

• Ebony Wright, 32, was discovered inside the apartment, also with a gunshot wound to the head, and later died at the hospital. 

• A third victim, identified as the baby’s aunt, was shot in the face but survived the attack. She managed to escape with the infant, who was unharmed. 

Charges and Trial: Turner faced multiple charges, including: 

• Two counts of first-degree murder while armed with aggravated circumstances 

• Assault with intent to kill while armed 

• Aggravated assault while armed 

• Attempted first-degree murder of a minor 

• Second-degree cruelty to children 

• Arson 

• Destruction of property 

• Four counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence 

• Carrying a pistol without a license.

   

Evidence and Conviction: The evidence presented at trial included testimony from the surviving victim, footage from a Ring doorbell camera, and the discovery of child support papers served to Turner by Ebony Wright. Turner’s own statements post-arrest also contributed to the case against him. On July 26, 2024, a DC Superior Court jury found Turner guilty on all counts. He is scheduled for sentencing on October 14, 2024, and faces a maximum sentence of life in prison due to the aggravated circumstances of the crimes.
