In addition to these murders, Hopewell also attempted other assaults during this period but did not kill all of his intended victims.
Arrest and Conviction
Hopewell’s criminal activities came to an end when he was arrested on September 20, 2005. The police were able to connect him to the murders through DNA evidence found at the crime scenes. On September 15, 2006, he was found guilty of five counts of murder and four counts of rape after entering a plea deal that allowed him to avoid the death penalty in exchange for pleading guilty.
He received four life sentences without the possibility of parole as part of his sentencing.
