The Tragic Event: On June 6, 2023, Kristel left Jailyn "alone and unattended" in a playpen at their home in Cleveland, Ohio. She traveled to Puerto Rico and Detroit during this time. When she returned, she found Jailyn deceased and called 911. Investigators discovered that Jailyn was "extremely dehydrated at the time of her death".
Legal Proceedings: Kristel pleaded guilty to aggravated murder and child endangerment in a deal with prosecutors. The charges dropped two murder counts and a felonious assault charge. During the trial, the prosecution presented evidence, including photos of Kristel partying in Puerto Rico and a recording of Jailyn screaming days after being left alone.
