RAE CARRUTH 1997 LEAF Donruss football card #159

This auction is for a 1997 Donruss Gold Leaf Rookie football card featuring Carolina Panthers wide receiver and convicted murderer Rae Lamar Wiggins, better known as Rae Theotis Carruth. Rae Carruth hired Van Brett Watkins Sr. to murder a woman who was pregnant with his child. On 11/16/1999, the plan was executed with Van Watkins shooting the woman's vehicle after Rae Carruth's cut her off. She was able to call 911 and identify Rae Carruth but died as a result of her injuries. Doctors were able to save the baby, but he suffered but suffered permanent brain damage. In 2001, Rae Carruth was found guilty of conspiracy to commit murder and attempting to kill an unborn child. He was sentenced to 18 - 24 years in prison. Rae Carruth was release on parole on 10/22/2018. Van Watkins plead guilty to his role in the murder plot and received a minimum sentence of 40 years.

ITEM DESCRIPTION: The 1997 Donruss Gold Leaf Rookie football card will come in a thin protective plastic sleeve and will be packed secure and sturdy. This card is in pristine shape and while my specialty isn't sports or collector card grading, I feel safe saying that is card is in mint condition. There are no surface scratches on either sides and the corners are sharp. The face of the card features a rather silly image of the wide receiver.
