Dakota J. DeGroot, a 27-year-old resident of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, was indicted by a federal grand jury on April 9, 2024, for possessing child pornography as a repeat offender. The indictment alleges that DeGroot possessed electronic files containing child pornography on or about January 18, 2024. DeGroot was previously convicted of possessing child pornography in Winnebago County Circuit Court in 2016. As a repeat offender, upon conviction of the offense alleged in the federal indictment, DeGroot would face a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years and up to 20 years in federal prison. He also could be fined up to $250,000 and would continue to be obligated to register as a sex offender under state and federal law. This case was investigated by the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office and the Wisconsin Department of Corrections – Division of Community Corrections.

The indictment alleges that he possessed electronic files containing child pornography in January 2024. DeGroot was previously convicted of possessing child pornography in Winnebago County Circuit Court in 2016. Upon conviction of the offense alleged in the federal indictment, DeGroot could face a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years and up to 20 years in federal prison.
According to a Sex Offender Information Bulletin released by the City of Oshkosh Police Department, Dakota J. DeGroot was residing at 2847 RM #3 Fond du Lac Rd in Oshkosh, WI as of November 22, 2022. He is on probation/parole until November 26, 2028, and is on lifetime GPS monitoring. The bulletin also states that he was convicted in 2016 of 2 Counts of Possession of Child Pornography, with the victims in the images being females ages 5-12 years old who were not known to the offender.
