Raul Meza Jr. is a convicted murderer with a criminal history spanning several decades. He was first convicted in 1982 for the murder of an 8-year-old girl named Kendra Page (strangulation). In recent developments, he has been charged with two additional murders that occurred in 2019 and 2023. The police have also indicated that he may be connected to up to 10 more homicides (e.g., Nicole Coleman) and have described him as a serial killer.
The two recent murder charges are for the deaths of Gloria Lofton (sexually assaulted and strangled) and Jesse Fraga (Raul’s roommate; found with a belt around his neck, a severed spine and a puncture wound to his neck). Lofton was found dead in her home in May 2019, and Fraga, who was Meza's roommate and a retired Travis County probation officer, was found dead on May 20, 2023. Meza has confessed to these murders, and his DNA matched the DNA found at the crime scenes.
Meza's criminal activities date back to 1975, including a curfew violation, aggravated robberies, and homicide. He has spent nearly 20 years in prison for various crimes.
Timeline of Meza's crimes, convictions and releases:
Dec. 31, 1975: Meza and three other teenagers robbed a convenience store near St. Edward's University, according to a Statesman report from 2008. During the robbery, Meza shot the attendant, Derly Ramirez, in the back, but Ramirez survived. Meza was convicted of aggravated robbery in 1976 and sentenced to 20 years in prison. However, he was released on parole in 1981.
Jan. 3, 1982: Meza strangled and sexually assaulted 8-year-old Kendra Page while she was riding her bike near Langford Elementary School. Page's body was found naked near a trash bin at the school. Meza turned himself in three days later and took a plea bargain. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison. In 1993, after serving 11 years of his sentence, Meza was released as a result of his time served plus time for good behavior.
August 1994: Meza was sent back to prison after violating parole. In September 2002, he received mandatory supervision release, which is similar to parole, but state parole officers held him at the Travis County Correctional Complex in Del Valle.
2016: Meza was officially released. He told police that he killed a woman soon after on Sara Drive, which is presumed to be Lofton.
