Description
This auction is for a greeting card from the deceased Gambino crime family boss John Joseph Gotti, Jr. (10/27/1940 - 6/10/2002). John Gotti is a crime figure that should need little introduction here, but I'll give one anyway. John Gotti was the head of the Gambino crime family in New York, taking control after ordering a hit on his former boss Paul Castellano. Known as the Teflon Don and Dapper Don, John Gotti became as synonymous with American gangsters as "Scarface" Al Capon. It was one of his own that would eventually lead to his undoing. After their arrest on 12/11/1990, "Sammy the Bull" Salvatore Gravano turned witness for the FBI. John Gotti would be convicted of five murders, conspiracy to commit murder, racketeering, and all other standard mafia related charges. He would be sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole in 1992. On 6/10/2002, John Gotti died of natural causes. He was 61.
ITEM DESCRIPTION: The card is inscribed to John Gotti's wife's sister Marylou DiGiorgio and is signed, "Johnny." Gotti was very particular about who he kept correspondence with. This piece is rather personal. The original mailing envelope is postmarked 8/8/1997. The card and envelope both come inside a protective magazine sleeve with an acid free board and have been stored flat. Message me with any questions you might have. Thanks for having a look-see.
