This auction is for an uncirculated Iraqi 5 Dinar Note, the currency used in the Iraq during the time of President Saddam Hussein's brutal dictatorship from 1979 – 2003. After a 1968 coup, Iraq became Ba'athist Iraq. Saddam came to power in 1979. After the 9/11/2001 terrorist attack on the United States, Iraq managed to find its way into the blame game and war was declared on the country. Saddam was captured by U.S. forces and tried for crimes against humanity, stemming from a 1982 massacre in Dujail. He was convicted and sentenced to death. He was executed on 12/30/2006. He was 69.
