Arthur Shawcross letter/envelope 7/7/2002 DECEASED

This auction is for a letter from deceased New York "Genesse River Killer" Arthur John Shawcross (6/6/1945 – 11/10/2008). Arthur Shawcross committed his first string of murders in 1972, upon returning home from serving a tour in Vietnam. His two victims were young children, a boy and a girl. Arthur Shawcross was afforded a pretty sweet deal, pleading guilty to a single count of manslaughter for the young boy, and having the case of the young girl, how was also raped, dismissed. After serving less than 15 years of a 25 year sentence Arthur Shawcross was paroled in 1987. He would go on to kill at least 11 more times, targeting prostitutes in Rochester, NY. The bodies were sometimes found mutilated. Arthur Shawcross explained this saying he engaged in acts of cannibalism. After a failed insanity defense Arthur Shawcross was convicted of 10 counts, later pleading guilty to an 11th, receiving multiple life sentences. He would die of natural causes in 2008. Arthur Shawcross was 63.

ITEM DESCRIPTION: The missive is two pages on one sheet, dated 7/7/2002, and is signed, "Arthur." In the letter Shawcross discuss gardening in detail. Shawcross has taped three four-leaf clovers to the first page. The original mailing envelope is postmarked 7/8/2002.
